It is with sadness in our hearts that the family of Barbara Schick announces the passing of their beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother on October 27, 2010, a few months shy of her 100th birthday. Barbara was born in Spring Valley on April 20, 1911. She married George Schick on February 19, 1928. Barbara spent most of her life on a farm near Spring Valley, where she raised eight children. Losing her husband at an early age, she worked hard with her family to keep the farm going. The family moved to Moose Jaw where she stayed until the last of her girls grew up. She then moved to Golden, BC for a few years before moving to Calgary, and finally back to Moose Jaw where she spent the remainder of her full life amongst her family. She will be remembered as always having a drawer full of knitted slippers, or a couple of afghans on the go. In her later years she lived at Chateau St. Michaels and always made sure everyone had a pair. She then moved to Pioneers Lodge, and with her hands not as good as they used to be, she had to give up knitting. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, five brothers and one sister; her husband, George in 1959, sons Peter and Alfred; daughter Elenora Holmes; daughter-in-law Johana, sons-in-law Dale Rodin and Ron Holmes; great-grandsons Jeremy Meacher and Devon McKechnie; and special friend Oscar Vanance. She is survived by her children: Karl (Kathy) - Central Butte, Elsie (Dick) Meacher, Walter (Opal), Rose (Brian) Hutchinson - all of Moose Jaw, and Martha Rodin - Warburg, AB; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Pauline Ewasik and Evelyn Schick. Funeral Services will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Monday November 1, 2010 at 10:30 am. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
