CARIBOU ISLAND – Mary Irene Porter, 83, of Caribou Island, passed away June 15, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Riverton, Prince Edward Island, she was a daughter of the late Allan and Christina (Shaw) Finlayson.
She retired from Northumberland Ferries Ltd. in June of 1988. Irene was a loving, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. She took great pride in her family. Her smiles, laughter, friendliness, and companionship will be greatly missed. She leaves this world, an inspiration to us all.
Surviving are husband, Kenneth Porter; sons, Charles (Helen) Baird, and George (Sonia) Baird, Caribou Island; daughter, Rebecca (Terry) Harford, Quispamsis, New Brunswick; step-children: Murray (Barb) Porter, Pictou; Richard (Maureen) Porter, Bayview; and Janice Porter, Bayview; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Baird; sons, Vernie and Keith; brother, Vernon.
Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Friday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Steven Webb officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery.
