Nellie passed away peacefully in Regina General Hospital after a brief illness, with her beloved niece Dawn by her side. She was born in Morse, SK and came to Moose Jaw with her parents James and Sarah Williams as an infant and has resided here her entire life. She married Jack Thompson in August of 1938 and they owned and operated Grant Hall Taxi in the early years of their marriage, and later Jack’s Jiffy Delivery as well as a grain farm in the Stony Beach area. They took great pride and joy in entertaining family and friends at their lake cottage. Nellie loved playing baseball and was shortstop for the Moose Jaw Royals in the 1930’s. She was a proud member of the Royal Purple, the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. Nellie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her nieces and nephews and their families: Wendy (Doyle) Grover; Jim Williams, his children Tammy and Rayden; Dawn (Al) Usher, their children Christie (Andrew) and Robert; as well as great-great-nieces and nephew: Tianna, Mykayla and Caydan; as well as nieces and nephews: Marilyn Kaupke; Bill and Ev Gilmore and family; many other nieces and nephews; and cherished companion Dr. Hugh McIntyre and friend Aileen McGhie. She is predeceased by her loving husband Jack of 59 years, brothers Ray and Harry, sister Evelyn, and great-nephew Doyle Jr. A Celebration of Nellie’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday November 9, 2010 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Allen Doerksen will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
