Nathaniel J. Cooper
Nathaniel J. Cooper of Amherst, Nova Scotia, formerly of St. John's, passed away on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010. Born in St. Anthony, he was the son of the late Rev. Joseph and Annie (Heath) Cooper. He was active in the East Coast offshore oil and gas sector for many years as Vice-President of A. Harvey and Co. Ltd. (Harvey Offshore). Prior to that he was a managing director of Pinto and Hann. He was the Honorary Vice Consul of Spain in Newfoundland. He served two terms as President of Newfoundland Oceans Industries Assoc. (NOIA). He was formerly a member of St.John's Rotary Club, St. John's Chamber of Commerce, VOWR, Saint Mary's Anglican Church and various community groups. He was active in curling throughout his life. His love of the sea was cultivated early in Main Brook, augmented by his work in the offshore, and enhanced in retirement at the cottage and at the helm of "Spellbound". He is survived by his current wife, Linda (Hunter), his children Lori and Mark (Diane) and their mother, Brenda; stepson Andrew Clarke (Jennifer); brother Rex (Lillian); grandchildren, Kaleb, Emma, Ava, James and Ben; nephew, Duke Cooper (Denise) and niece Kelly Cooper-Beech (Jamie). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Katherine. Nathaniel's remains have been cremated under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 667-8777 (70 Church St. Amherst, Nova Scotia). The family received visitors at the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 24, from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held at the Anglican Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in St. John's, on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. Family flowers only.
