With heavy hearts, the family of Kenneth Atkinson, age 91, of Truemanville announces his peaceful passing at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash on Wednesday, December 15, 2010.
Born in Westbrook, NS, he was a son of the late Henry and Ada (Neiforth) Atkinson.
A farmer, Kenneth also worked for R.K. Chapell Construction. He worked also at Elmac Co. for 10 years then at Enamel Heating. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, an associate member of the C.C. 13 Cumberland Club. He was a member of the Truemanville Fire Department as well as the Truemanville United Church when it was in service.
Kenneth will be sadly missed by his wife of 71 years, the former Sarah Trueman; daughters, Ruth Estabrooks (Lee) of Sackville, NB, Judy Langille of Amherst, Elsie Dupuis (David) of Truemanville, Mildred Bull (Gerald) of Cole Harbour, Nancy Jones (Carson) of Amherst, Leota Hawkes (Larry) of Amherst Head, Brenda Fleury (Paul) of Trenton, ON; sons, Robert (Aileen) of Toronto, ON, Stanley (Pauline) , George (Hilda) both of Truemanville, Philip (Beryl) of Amherst Head, Larry (Sandra) of Truemanville, Albert (Debbie) of Wolfville, Jack (Gladys) of Amherst, Frank (Wendy) of Chapman Settlement; sister, Eva Reid (Clarence) of Truemanville; brother, Aubrey (Joyce) of Truemanville; forty-two grandchildren, and many great and great great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by sons Cecil in 1956 and Douglas in 2006, as well as brothers Bill and Ernest.
Kenneth's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777) from where the funeral service will be held, Monday, December 20, 2010 at 2 pm, Rev. Philip Read officiating. Burial in the Truemanville Cemetery, reception to follow at the Truemanvill Fire Hall. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Sunday December 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
