Isabelle Estabrooks

Isabelle Estabrooks

Isabelle Marie Estabrooks nee Lines of the Cantuar District left us on Friday, December 17, 2010. Isabelle spent her last weeks at home receiving many friends and family, and under the loving care of her husband Jack, daughter Heather, son Patrick, and her many siblings, as well as her Palliser family.

Isabelle was born on December 13, 1948, at the Swift Current Union Hospital, to Albert and Jean Lines. This "First Born Girl Child" went home to join her brother Carson on the family farm in the Flats district Siblings Bonnie, Jim, Katie, Lexie, Boyd and Barbie arrived in short order to make the family complete. Those were full years spent enjoying school, 4H, sports, reunions, working with Mom and Dad, and singing as a family with many dear friends. We remember Isabelle taking care of us, her fierce glare at a batter, her sense of fun, her determination to get things done, her makeup lessons, and how beautiful she was.

Isabelle attended elementary school at The Flats and Success Schools, and completed high school at W. A. Beatty Collegiate in Swift Current. She moved to Medicine Hat, then Calgary, where she met "the right one", her blue eyed handsome Maritimer, Mr. John Wayne Estabrooks, who was stationed there with the Lord Strathcona Horse Armoured Corp. Jack and Isabelle were married on November 22, 1969, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They lived in Calgary for five years, where Patrick and then Heather joined the family. Isabelle worked as a caregiver until the kids arrived. She was also busy pitching Senior A Women's fastball in Calgary, and enjoying life with the many lifelong friends they made in those years.

Jack and Isabelle moved home to Success, Saskatchewan, in 1975. These were busy years for the little family, and in 1978 they moved to their own farm just a couple miles south of Mom and Dad. Jack and Isy worked hard to make this dream come true, all the while working off the farm, raising the babies, volunteering in their communities, playing sports, and having fun. Isabelle and Jack took many trips to New Brunswick to visit their very large and loving clan down east. They also enjoyed camping at the river, attending rodeos and sports events, fishing, and visiting. They were truly a wonderful pair, and made it their priority to spend time together.

Isabelle worked at the Palliser as a Special Care Aide for 32 years. She loved her job and her co-workers, and took great pride in the hands-on care she delivered to residents. This care often involved helping with hair, makeup and manicures, reading history to residents, and planning parties and entertainment for them. Families of residents appreciated the extra special care she gave. She brightened many lives during her career at the Palliser, and staff and residents will miss her homemade buns, bread, and jams. During these years, Isabelle served on the SEIU Executive Board of Local 336 for 15+ years.

Isabelle enjoyed gardening and yard work, fastball and curling, fishing and camping, running the kids to sports and activities, cooking and baking, community activities, and most of all her treasured children and grandchildren. Mama's memory will be cherished forever, and her example of a life well lived is a legacy for her children and grandchildren. Isabelle was a member of the Cantuar Busy Bees and the Success Curling Club. She had a great sense of humour, and wrote and performed many skits for local showers, anniversaries, and parties.

Isabelle is survived by her husband Jack, her son Patrick and wife Nanette and their children Caitlin, Lauren, and Nicole ,all of Swift Current, her daughter Heather and husband Stuart Boyd
and their children Carson, Curtis, and Krissy of Carbon, Alberta, and Callie Paproski and family of Calgary.

She also leaves her mother, Edna Jean Lines, sisters Bonnie Dunlop, Katie Walter, Alexis Lines, Barbara Golden, and brothers Jim and Boyd Lines, and brother-in-law Larry Lockman and all of their families, as well as large and loving McLeod, Lines, and Estabrooks families. She also leaves dear friends Don and Marilyn Conrad, Barbara and Les Wotherspoon, and Larry and Faye Gould.
