Lorne Letcher

With deep sadness, the family of Lorne Letcher, age 87, of Amherst announce his passing at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Cecil and Eva (Lowe) Letcher
Lorne was a retired GM dealer having joined his dad who started the business, Cecil Letcher and Sons in 1918. He owned and operated Letchers Furniture Store, Springhill; Letchers Motel, Fort Lawrence and brought the first fast food drive-in restaurant, A & W Drive In, to be situated in the Amherst Area. He was an avid sports enthusiast having raced harness horses and he set a driving record which has never been broken to this day. He played golf and enjoyed bowling with brother Russ. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Acacia # 8 of Amhest.
He will be sadly missed by his son Douglas Cecil (Lexie) Letcher, Kolbec, NS his wife, Phyllis (Turney), Amherst, NS and a niece, Bonny Heather (Bill) Whittle, Springhill, NS.
He was predeceased by a wife the former Bernadette "Bonnie" Mortimer; brother Russell "Russ" and nephew Todd Jewkes.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). In keeping with Lorne's wishes, a private graveside committal service will be held in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, with The Reverend Allan Griffin officiating.
If so desired, donations in Lorne's memory may be made to a charity of choice.
