Norman Power left this earth on Dec. 28, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family, to be with Jesus. During his 12-year battle with cancer, Norman was a faithful witness for Jesus Christ.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Oscar and Irene (Dunbar) Power.
He served in Korea with the Canadian Army from 1953-56. He was employed with Municipal Ready Mix where he retired in 1996. He was the biggest fan of the Montreal Canadiens.
Norman is survived by his wife, Shirley (Dove); son, Norman; daughter, Brenda (Ian), Sydney; their mother, Florence; grandchildren, Phillip and Andrew Nicholson, Justin, Brandon and Kristan Anthony; sister, Barbara (Keith) Carroll; brothers, James, Gordon (Mary), both of Sydney, Ernest (Mae) Windsor, Ont.; sister-in-law, Gertie Power.
He was predeceased by his sister, Irene, in infancy and brother, Victor.
A memorial service celebrating Norman's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, in the S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Harold Sparkes officiating.
