On January 10, 2011 Jeremiah (Jerry) Downey, in his 72nd year, passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born and raised in Stephenville Crossing along with siblings Dolores, Geraldine, Clara, Robert and Roberta. His parents were John and Dorothy Downey (predeceased). As a young man he met the love of his life, Lorraine (Bennett). They were wed on June 20, 1965 and their family soon grew with the birth of their three children, Donna (Gary Elliott), Paul and David. The family continued to grow with the addition of seven beautiful grandchildren, Megan, Mitchel, Christy, Courtney, Chelsea, P.J. (Paul Jeremiah), and Jeremiah. Jerry, a gentle and kind man with a wonderful sense of humor, was a hard worker and provided for his family through his occupation as a truck driver. He was liked by all who met him and loved by those who knew him well. Also left to remember Jerry and celebrate his life are numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home in Stephenville Crossing on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place from Assumption Roman Catholic Parish, Stephenville Crossing on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Father Gerard Patry officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Brook Street, Stephenville Crossing. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made through our website www.fillatre.ca.

God saw that you were getting tired, a cure was not to be, and he wrapped you in his loving arms and whispered "Come to me."
