Charles Tupper

TUPPER, Charles L. - 86, of Parrsboro passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Nathan F. Tupper and the late Vanessa (Berry) (Tupper) Canning. During the second world war, Charles served with the Merchant Marine and the Royal Canadian Navy. Following the war, he was a marine engineer working on tugboats in the arctic for several years. He later was employed with the Dept. of National Defense in Debert until his retirement. Charles was very active within his community, serving in numerous capacities with St. George's Church, and was a founding member of the Air Cadet Squadron in Parrsboro. He was a former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge and was a life member of Legion Branch #45, Parrsboro. He is survived by daughters, Linda Taggart, Parrsboro; Marie Parker (Lloyd), Halifax; Ann Marie Tupper (Ron Ellis), Parrsboro; a grandson, Charles Parker (Shawna), Edmonton; a great granddaughter, Hannah Parker, Edmonton; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Anna Olsen; a brother, Nathan. Visitation 6-8 p.m. today [Monday, January 24, 2011] at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday [January 25, 2011] at St. George's Anglican Church, Parrsboro, Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
