Doug MacKeigan, 58, died at Ian Anderson House, Oakville, Ont. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, following a final fierce battle with kidney cancer. For 10 years, with the amazing help of Princess Margaret Hospital, Doug lived with the burden of cancer, living his life as well as possible through each new stage.
Born May 1, 1952, in Glace Bay, N.S., he lived in Glace Bay until attending Acadia University in the early 1970s. Doug loved Acadia and the lifestyle in Wolfville. He worked at Dalhousie University for several years, living in Halifax. He then started a long career in sales with Johns Scientific and Radiometer, until the advancement of his illness forced retirement. In 1981 he and his wife moved to Ontario, taking up residence in Oakville and staying there until his death.
Doug was notable for his care and consideration for others. For many years to participated in the March of Dimes annual campaign.
Doug is missed by his wife of 32 years, Aileen McNabb and his two children, Conor (19) and Devlin (16). Conor is attending University of King's College in Halifax; and Devlin is a grade 11 student at Oakville Trafalgar High School. Doug is also in the hearts of his sister Nancy; and brothers, Dwight, Dale and Darrin; as well as his mother, June all living in Nova Scotia.
Doug was predeceased by his father, Doug, nine years ago.
Services will be held at Glen Oaks Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line, Hwy 403 and Dundas Street, Oakville, Ontario on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, www.glenoaks.ca. Relatives and friends are welcome. Visitation 10:30 a.m., service 11:30 a.m., reception 12 p.m.
