Mary Ellen Christie

At the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital on February 10, 2011, after a lengthy illness Mary Ellen (McFadzen) Christie, wife of Howard M. Christie of Fredericton passed away. Born in Montreal in 1947 she was the second daughter of the late Jack and Margaret (Currie) McFadzen. Predeceased by an infant sister Elizabeth Anne. Mary Ellen grew up in Edmunston, NB and moved to Fredericton with her family as a teenager, where she attended and graduated from Fredericton High School. She attended UNB and took a double major in sociology and pyschology. After graduation she worked as a social worker at the William F. Roberts Hospital for Mentally Handicapped Children. Following that she taught in Campbellton for a year. She returned to Fredericton and took a job as a reporter for the Daily Gleaner. In 1972 she married Howard and they started a family. Their first child was Julian, followed by a daughter Leslie six years later, both of whom reside in Fredericton. During her first two years of marriage, she worked part time for Hearst Publications as a reporter of Construction News. Mary Ellen was a musician, and a very adept piano and guitar player. She loved and adored people and animals.
The family will receive friends at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road on Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 2 to 4 PM. A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 13, 2011 from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at 3 PM. with Rev. Doug Blaikie officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. For those who wish memorial in Mary Ellen’s name may be made to the Fredericton SPCA.
