Mary Campbell

March 25, 1946 - February 16, 2011 - Mary was born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia and began her nursing career at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She married David Stanley Campbell, the one true love of her life, in 1967 and continued to practice nursing at the Prince Edward Island Hospital and the D.V.A. Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick. Her beloved sons Tom and Colin were born in Saint John, N.B. The family moved to Ottawa in 1974 and Mary began her 36 year career at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, offering her expert skills, her warm welcoming smile and an unfailingly caring heart to the children and families of the Ottawa region as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. Mary assumed the responsibilities of Triage Nurse for the last 10 years of her career and was recognized as a role model for staff and as a respected advocate for excellence in the delivery of paediatric emergency care. She passionately loved her work, her family and her friends and was dearly loved in return. Her characteristic smile and notorious “joie de vivre” are now a cherished memory. Mary is survived by David, her beloved husband of 43 years, her sons Tom (Lisa) and Colin, her 95 year old parents Thomas Sampson and Bessie (Briand) Sampson, her sister Ann MacLean and her brothers Tom, Charles and Joseph. She is also survived by her very dear friends.
Family and friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2370 St-Joseph Blvd., Orleans, Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Service in Memory of Mary will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in the Chapel at 2 p.m. followed by a gathering from 3 to 5 p.m. Kelly Funeral Home, 613-837-2370
