Christine Ann MacKay of Duggan Avenue, New Waterford, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with her family by her side.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Mary Corbett.
For many years, Christine was employed with Social Services in New Waterford and the Cape Breton District School Board. She enjoyed spending her summers in Ben Eoin with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In the winters, Christine loved going to Florida with her husband John, where they also made many new friends. She remains in our memory as a fun-loving, strong-willed and family-oriented woman.
She is survived by her loving and devoted, husband, John; daughter, Shawna (Bernie) Wilson, New Waterford; son, Jeff (Michelle), Halifax; and her cherished grandchildren, Kayla, Sara and Jack. Christine is also survived by her ever-supportive siblings, Elaine, Barbara, Alana, Bill; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Bernie, Rolly, Leo, Blair, and a sister, Maureen.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford.
As an expression of sympathy for Christine, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
