It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, John Garfield MacNeil, 62, of Glace Bay.
John passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
John was employed by General Motors in Ontario prior to returning back to Glace Bay to retire.
John was at his happiest surrounded by his friends and family while he entertained them with his incredible musical ability. Johnny loved country music and his favourite artist, Hank Snow.
John is survived by his friend, Nancy Lee; his loving children, Arthur MacNeil, Eskasoni, Janet (Darryl) Marshall, Glace Bay, Jean (Fred) Tilley, Sydney Mines. His loving sisters, Margie (Michael) MacDonald, Glace Bay, Edna (Brian) Ashe, Reserve, Mary (Greg) Boutilier, Glace Bay, Judy (Brendan) Mackie, Gardiner Mines, Irene (Danny) Fortune, Eskasoni. His beautiful grandchildren, Monica, Emily, Mairi and Caylin.
He was predeceased by his parents, Archibald and Mary (McInnis) MacNeil; also brothers, Earl and Danny MacNeil.
Visitation for John MacNeil will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr. Andrew Gillies officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
