MURPHY, Leonora Alma- 97, of Atlanta, Centreville, Kings County, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, February 28, 2011. Born in Weston, February 19, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Gladys (Manson) Rockwell. Her greatest love was her family and extended family, as indicated by the always large family gatherings at Christmas and her birthday. Leonora loved her flower gardens, the birds at the back feeders, a good game of cards and spent many hours in the rink watching her grandchildren play hockey. In her early years she worked in the post office in Centreville and later married to set about raising a family of seven on a very busy farm. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, where she had served as a member of the choir. She was a member of the Centreville Good Neighbour Club. She is survived by four daughters, Ruth, Berwick; Louise (Jack) Landry, Lower Sackville; Elizabeth, Halifax; Margaret (Ivan) Kaizer, Atlanta; three sons, Philip (Carole), Leo (Judith) and Budd (Patricia), all of Atlanta; a sister, Helen Balsor, Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville; 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, M. Holden Murphy; three sisters, Dorothy, Gladys and Ruth; a brother, Paul; an infant daughter, Mary; a grandson, Daniel; a great granddaughter, Alexandria; a son-in-law, Bryon MacLeod. Visitation was held from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 with prayers at 8:00 p.m. both in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service followed by a reception was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson and Father Gerald Saulnier officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
