Laura was born and raised at Hickman’s Harbour, Trinity Bay. Photography was an early hobby and some of her “snaps” have become treasures of both the Martin and Weir families. She met her future husband at Little Bay Islands while serving as the sole teacher in its all-grade Salvation Army School. Throughout her married life she was a devoted wife, a dedicated homemaker and a loving mother. She assisted in the care of her parents in their years of declining health, and she treasured all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Community-minded, Laura was awarded an honorary lifetime membership in the United Church Women. Highly intelligent, with a real sense of humour and an outstanding memory, right to the very end, this kind and gentle woman thoroughly enjoyed the company of family and friends, and will be greatly missed. A funeral has taken place on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home with interment at St. Matthew’s United Cemetery, Lewisporte. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South & Central Health Foundation.
