LUCKMAN, Ronald James Sr. "Ron" — CD 2 - passed away peacefully on March 3, 2011, at the age of 73, in his home in Berwick surrounded by his family. Born in Hamilton, Ont., he was a son of the late William and Lily (Orgar) Luckman. He retired from the R.C.A.F. and C.A.F. having served for 33 years as a Communications and Radar Technician. Prior to enlisting with the R.C.A.F., Ron was employed as a Machinist at Embree Tool and Die Industries, Hamilton, Ont. Following his retirement from the Armed Forces, he operated a small "Handyman" business for 10 years. He was an adherent of Berwick United Church, where he served as Building Committee Chairperson and served for a number of years as secretary of the Board of Stewards. Ron was a member of Valley Lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M., Berwick, past master of Argus Lodge No. 133, A.F. & A.M., Kingston, and Past Patron of Mayflower Chapter, No. 2 , Order of the Eastern Star, Aylesford. His mother Lodge was Airisle No. 20, A.F. & A.M., Summerside, P.E.I. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, Kingston and the R.C.A.F. Association (member at large). In his later years, Ron thoroughly enjoyed taking part in parades with the Shriners of Nova Scotia (Philae Temple) and served as secretary of the Western Valley Shrine Club. Some of his interests in life included: trout fishing, solving crossword puzzles and making "fancy firewood". Ron is survived by his companion and best friend, Charlene Holt Bentley, Berwick; brother, William, Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Betty Hemingway, Hamilton, Ont.; June Guznar, Hamilton, Ont.; children, Vicki Anne Miller, Ronald James Jr. (Dawna), Courtenay, B.C.; Patricia Lee Luckman, Middleton; Anthony Wayne (Kim), Barrie Ont.; grandchildren, Chareen, Halifax; Lauryn, Ben and Emma, Courtenay, B.C.; Braydon and Jarret, Zachary and Codi, Middleton; Danielle, Barrie, Ont. Ron's remains have been donated to Dalhousie Medical School. There was no visitation. Masonic Service and memorial service took place at 2 p.m. Monday, March 7, in Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, NS., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), Rev. Linda Winton officiated. Donations in Ron's memory may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Sick Children. At Ron's request, a tree may be planted in his memory. For a number of years now I have been chairperson of the Berwick United Church Building Committee. I recently found out that God needed a handyman and on January 10, 2011, I found out that I was elected to be chairperson of His building committee. - Ron Luckman
