Maynard Rideout

Maynard Albert Sanford Rideout of Woodstock, NB, passed away at the Upper River Valley Hospital on March, 12, 2011. Maynard was born on July 26, 1926 at Oak Hill, Charlotte Co., NB, son of the late Gaston and Dolly (Armstrong) Rideout. Survived by wife Grace (Cummings) Rideout, daughter, Elnora Ann Rideout, Dow Settlement, NB and son, Edwin Albert Rideout (Arline M. Tompkins), Grande Prairie, AB; grand-children, Perry Andrew Rideout (Jodi Morrison), St. Albert, AB, Lorelei Heather Rideout, Airdrie, AB, brother, Arnold James Rideout, Oak Hill, NB. Besides his parents, Gaston and Dolly (Armstrong) Rideout, Maynard was predeceased by a half brother, Gordon Vincent Barter (Barbara), infant brother, Max; half sisters, Annie (Milledge Caldwell) (David Matthews) and Dorothy (Richard Frizzell). Maynard worked at many jobs including woods work, carpentry, delivery man for General Dairies and some entrepreneurial efforts of his own. He was a craftsman and did relief sculpting on hardwood board pieces – animal scenes featuring deer, moose, etc. – which he painted and mounted. He loved tramping in the woods to gather different plant species/flowers in season, hunting and fishing. He designed and made fishing spinners of all shapes and sizes. He did inlay marquetry on rifle butts for many people. And he made many fishing rods. He was a regular at the craft market in Perth-Andover for years and then enlisted his daughter’s help to manage the jewelery making end of the ‘table’ when she was through working at Day & Ross. He managed to keep busy.
Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, NB on Thursday, March 17, 2011, 7 to 9 PM. Funeral service will be at the Meductic United Baptist Church on Friday, March 18, 2:00 PM, with Pastor Charles Yerxa officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Lower Meductic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Lower Meductic Cemetery.
