AKISTER - Annette passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in Moose Jaw, SK after a courageous battle with cancer. Annette was born in the White Bear District on December 14, 1932, to Albert and Dora Griffith. Annette married Donald Akister on July 14, 1950. They farmed in the Tuberose district until they retired to Kyle in 1981. Annette is predeceased by her husband Donald (1995), parents Albert (1975) and Dora (1990) and sisters Vivian (1937), Verna (1963) and Lue (2001). Annette is survived by her children Richard (Shirley) of Calgary, David (Stella) of Yorkton, Pam (Dale) of Regina, Wayne (Kelley) of Strathmore, AB, Lynne of Red Deer, AB, and Chuck (Gail) of Moose Jaw, as well as 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren who served as honorary pallbearers; Michael, Kristie, Aaron, Lindsay, Ashley, Jeff, Judy, Deanna, Christopher, Karlie and Logan. She will also be sadly missed by her extended family and close friends Barb and Norm Hovland, John and Jean Doyle, Eva Erickson, and Shelley and Stan Figley as well as numerous other relatives, friends and neighbours. Annette was a member of the ACW and enjoyed gardening, knitting, cards, puzzles and music. Annette and Donald spent many enjoyable Saturday nights performing the music for the Tuberose Square Dance Club, a tradition that Annette continued for many years after, accompanying the competitors, on the piano, in area fiddling competitions. Her friends and family could always rely on a fresh cup of coffee and good conversation with Annette and her beloved pet cockatiel Joey. But her greatest love was her children and grandchildren. Easter was always a highlight for Annette and her family who gathered every year for a weekend of fun and games that often involved the entire community. A graveside service was held Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the White Bear Cemetery in White Bear, SK with Brian Watson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Center, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina SK, S4T 7T1. Culham/Bowers Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
