SOMMERFELD – Mary it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Mary Sommerfeld on March 27, 2011, one month shy of her 85th birthday. Mary Violet Sommerfeld (nee Regier) has gone home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mary was predeceased by her husband Arthur Sommerfeld, parents Abram and Elisabeth Regier, brothers Jake Regier and Johnny Regier, parents-in-law Peter and Mary Sommerfeld, sisters-in-law Flora Dyck and Helen Derksen, nephew Murray Regier, niece Lynne Derksen and great-niece Julie Letkeman. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Doreen (Warren Clubb), grandsons Andrew and Scott Clubb; son Randy (Sheila), granddaughter Jaclyn (Matt Chute), grandsons Jason and Kalon Sommerfeld; daughter Rhonda (Glen Haight), granddaughters Allison Groening (Matt Williams), Jillian Groening and grandsons Mike Groening and Sam Haight. She also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was born on the family farm in the Wymark district on April 27, 1926. She was married to Arthur Sommerfeld, her best friend and love of her life on July 15, 1950. Together they farmed in the Wymark district where Mary enjoyed her busy life as farm wife, mother and teacher. Upon her retirement from teaching Mary and Arthur enjoyed their time travelling, visiting and being involved with their grandchildren, and an active social life with their wonderful group of friends. She was an active member of Zion Mennonite Church, attending regularly until mobility issues prevented her participation. Mom continued to be interested in many things, especially her family, until health deteriorated rapidly once she contracted bronchial pneumonia. She was transferred to St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon where she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. The family gratefully appreciates all the care and support to Mary by the staff at the Swift Current Care Centre, Cypress Regional Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital. A celebration of Mary’s life was held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Herman Wiebe officiating. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
