Russell Shipley
SHIPLEY, Russell C Age 90, of Brookdale, Cumberland County, passed away April 1st, 2011 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center. Born in Brookdale, he was a son of the late Clarence and Mabel (MacKay) Shipley.
A devoted family man, Russell is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Bernice (Adshade); his children, Marlene (Larry), Amherst, Linda (Wayne), Fall River, Cheryl (Dana), Prospect, Sandra (Larry), Lower Sackville; his 12 beloved grandchildren, Shannon, Krista, Ryan, Sarah, Brad, Eric, Nick, Kristie, Leah, James, Patrick and Hailah, as well as 4 great grandchildren, Aidan, Chase, Malia and Jewel. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Sidney (Barbara), Ontario and special cousins, Ralph MacKay and Laurie Shipley. Russell was predeceased by brothers, Norman and Harry.
At an early age he owned and operated Hillcrest Dairy and will be warmly remembered delivering milk with his horse drawn milk wagon. He then worked at Margolians for 34 years retiring at age 65 as manager of the men's department. He was well liked and respected, and loved to share stories and jokes with the staff and customers. During his retirement he enjoyed being outdoors, spending time in his blueberry fields, riding his ATV and summers at his cottage at Heather Beach with his family. Russell was a "Jack of all Trades", self taught plumber, electrician and carpenter. Always willing to lend a hand on any projects big or small. In later years he enjoyed the role of foreman on many projects.
Russell's remains have been cremated under the care and supervision of the W. Allen Funeral Home, Oxford (447-2167). By request there will be no visitation. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 2 pm from the Brookdale United Church, Rev. Lloyd Bruce officiating. Reception to follow in the church. A special thank you to the staff of the Medical Unit, Cumberland Regional Health Care Center. Donations in Russell's memory may be made to the Brookdale United Church.
