HAYES, Alton Gordon “Gabby” – age 78, Tusket Falls, Yarmouth Co., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 surrounded by family in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born February 1, 1939 in Salem, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Gordon and Ruth (Harding) Hayes. Gabby was a retired machinist and welder, having owned and operated Al’s Machine Works and Welding for many years. After retiring he enjoyed watching his grandson play hockey and his granddaughters dance. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Nickerson) Hayes, as well as by his three children, Tracey Crosby and Lisa Hayes (Sean), both of Summerville; Troy Hayes (Christa), Tusket Falls; grandchildren, Nicholas Boudreau, Summerville; Victoria (Kenzie) Samson, Arichat; Abbey Crosby, Kennedy Hayes (Allen), Dylan Allen, all of Summerville; Amber Smith, Ottawa; Twyla Doucet-Miller, Matthew Doucet, both of Yarmouth and great grandchildren, Isabella and Aurora. Also surviving is a brother, Arthur (Jean) Hayes, Wellington and a sister, Betty Doucet, Yarmouth. In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A private family service will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to TREPA.
