David Thistle

New Glasgow - The tired heart of a big-hearted man has ceased and all too soon.  David Roderick Thistle, age 55, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (MacInnis) Thistle.
David worked for Trenton Works, Simpsons Appliances, and Pictou Shipyards. David was known to many under various titles and terms of endearment throughout his life: “Bad Dave” in his teens, brother to his three sisters, Uncle Dave to his nieces and nephew, “thorn” or “bud” to his friends.
David cherished time spent with his family and friends no matter what the circumstance, and never neglected to remember a birthday. He made many early morning trips to Tim Horton’s and vast treks through the country roads to drop off a card or gift to acknowledge an occasion or just say “I was in the neighbourhood and thought I’d drop by to say hello”. Next to his friends and family, Dave’s time at the “camp” was near and dear to him, time well spent. He also enjoyed dancing.
He is survived by his three sisters: Joan (Kevin) MacLean, Hopewell; Sharon (Darrell) Hirtle, Truro; and Arlene Thistle, New Glasgow; 4 nieces: Chrissy, Heather, Shelby, Lynn; 1 nephew, Kelly; and 8 grand-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant sister, Janice; grandnephew, Chace MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place. A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 11 am at Holy Cross Cemetery with Father Tom MacNeil officiating.
Donations may be made in David’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Pictou County SPCA.
Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
