It is with great sadness that we the family of Albena announce her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on June 21, 2017.
Born in Bathurst, NB., Jan. 13, 1925 (92), she was the daughter of the late Albert (Abbe) Couture and Alexina (Hache) Couture.
Mom left home at the age of 19 and moved to Windsor, NS to work for Stanfields. She soon met her future husband, Lloyd who was stationed there in the army. After their marriage, they moved to Cape Breton where mom worked at the Pt. Edward Naval Base, General Instruments of Canada, and the Cape Breton Hospital, from which she retired in 1990. At the same time she also raised two boys (no small feat indeed). She was a caring, loving woman who was always there when someone needed a helping hand. She was an exceptional cook and baker and her fruit cake was legendary. Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom she had a special bond. She is survived by sons, Albert (Rita), Cornwall P.E.I. and Ralph (Monica) Westmount, N.S. She is also survived by grandchildren, Darren, Todd, Danielle, Ian, Michelle and Aaron as well as great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Serena, Jack, Brandi, Morgyn, Matthieu, Ares, Grace, Jordan, Shenece and Emma; brother, Omar Couture (Rose) Windsor, ON.; and sisters, Geraldine Poisson, Windsor, ON., Angelina Bartinski, Sprague, MB, Lydia Brown, Steinback, MB, Emilia Dorion (Randolph), Bathurst; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; sisters, Rose, Lillian, Evelyn and Florence; brothers, Wilfred, Martial, Phillippe, Bernard and Thomas. The family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Reggie Sabastion, Palliative Care and unit 3-B Staffs for the excellent care given to mom.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will take will take place Thursday, June 29, 2017 1 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney NS. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Albina can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation , Palliative Care or charity of choice.
