Gerald Bower

Lieu de décès : Shelburne, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 27 juin 2017

BOWER, Gerald Morton - age 84, of Upper Ohio, Shelburne County passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 27th, 2017, at the Roseway Hospital, Shelburne. Gerald is survived by his foster son, Danny Menard and his two sisters; Janette Young and Ora Slade. He is predeceased by his loving wife Annie, and son Manus.
Gerald was the son of Dora and Manus, who had eight sons and four daughters. In his early teens after the passing of his father Manus, Gerald left school he was attending in Halifax to return home to the family farm.
Gerald spent many years working hard in the woods and at the local mill. He was an avid hunter and trapper, loving his days in the woods and at their camp with family and friends. They came back from the camp with stories of their hunting and fishing adventures. His passion for the outdoors was endless.
He will always be remembered for his compassion in supporting the community with his wife Annie; whether it was working hard at the local Upper Ohio Community Fire Hall on a fundraiser; the Shelburne Lions Club as President, or running the Shelburne Exhibition. Gerald and Annie worked hard to make the community stronger.
As many of Gerald’s nieces and nephews can attest, coming back to the family farm for a visit was a thing of joy and hard work. The family used to think he planned out the calendar for visits through the summer to have us home for stacking firewood or bringing in hay…there was always something to do.
Gerald was an avid ox teamster and farmer, he loved the ox pulls at the Shelburne Exhibition and regularly travelled to other agricultural exhibitions where he would meet up with his fellow teamsters.
For the last four years Gerald was a resident of the Surf Lodge nursing home in Lockport; enough cannot be said for the staff who work there; with the support and compassion shown to the residents, making Gerald’s stay comfortable during difficult times.
At a later date, a memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Upper Ohio Community Fire Hall or the Upper Ohio Union Church.
