Smiley, Eric Edward, age 88, of Windsor, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at the Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, surrounded by his family. Born on May 16, 1929, in Scotch Village, he was the son of the late Howard and Beatrice (Dimock) Smiley. Eric retired as President and owner of Roger E. Strum Insurance, Windsor. He was an active member of the Windsor Baptist Church, serving on several boards and committees, a Cub Leader, and Sunday school superintendent. He was former president of the local Canadian Cancer Society and on the provincial board. He was local representative of the Baptist Homes, Moncton headquarters. Eric in his earlier years, was active in sports, as a coach and player, winning several Provincial and Maritime Fastball Championships, along with his brother Irving. Most important was his family, his wife and boys, and will be missed by all those who knew him. Eric is survived by his wife of 62 years the former, Mildred “Millie” Rich; sons, Chris (Mary), Charlotte, NC; Tim of Windsor; granddaughter, Haley Rushton, Coldbrook; great-granddaughter, Alice; sister, Beatrice Bailey, Truro. Besides parents, he was predeceased by a son, Michael Eric (1988); brothers, Irving, Walter and John; sisters, Lillian Mumford and Ethel Parker. The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to staff at Dykeland Lodge for all their excellent and compassionate care shown to Eric over the years that he has been a resident. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0. There was no visitation by request. Funeral service was 2 pm Friday, July 7, 2017, in the Windsor Baptist Church/ The Rev. Rob Heffernan officiated. Interment in the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, followed by a reception at the Windsor Baptist Church. Donations in memory of Eric may be made to the Dykeland Lodge or the Windsor Baptist Church.
