DOUCETTE, Thomas Joseph – age 84, Melbourne, Yarmouth Co., formerly of Lower Wedgeport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital with his family at his side. Born November 14, 1932 in Wedgeport, he was a son of the late Jim and Lucy (Surette) Doucette. Thomas made his living in fishing industry and he had a great love for the sea. He worked as a lobster fisherman and as a fish cutter, but he was especially fond of his time spent as a sword fisherman. Always a happy man, Thomas enjoyed hunting, humming a good tune and he was a great story-teller, but he found his true passion in serving his God. He was a proud and active member and former Church director of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6505 Wedgeport, and more recently Council 2181 Yarmouth, as well as being a member of the Fourth Degree, Msgr. W.E. Young Assembly 1428, Yarmouth. He was devoted member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Wedgeport, where he served as Eucharistic minister, taught religious education, ministered to the sick, was a leader in both the Alpha program and the charismatic movement and he did all that he could to help those less fortunate than him. He will be remembered as a good husband, father and provider. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis A. (Hubbard) Doucette, as well as by their children, Manie Louise (Allen) Boudreau, Melbourne; Bernadette Mary (Patrick) d’Entremont, Belleville; Mitchell Paul Doucette, Bridgewater, as well as by two grandchildren, Raven and Kylee, and a sister, Delora Pothier, Nakile Home for Special Care, Argyle. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Paulieanna, in infancy, as well as by brothers, Elie, Norbert, Vernon, Michael, Andrew and sisters, Alverna, Celeste, Gertrude and Odena. Visitation took place from 7-9 p.m. Thursday with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 14 from Saint Michael’s Church, Wedgeport, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Gilles Boudreau & Friends Cancer Help Fund or to Saint Michael’s Parish Cemetery Fund.
