Gladys Huntley MacKinnon, July 18 1918-October 7 2016

Gladys and twin Hazel were raised on John and Lina Huntley’s beautiful Vernon River farm with their siblings Margaret and Donald. Gladys graduated from PEI School of Nursing in 1940. She married John Stewart in 1943 and was widowed when HMCS Athabaskan was torpedoed. She married Keith MacKinnon in 1947 and enjoyed forty-two years of companionship and travel. Gladys took pride in her home and loved to entertain. She dressed beautifully to her last breath. She had a deep faith and was a member of Central Christian Church. and the Crystal Chapter of the Eastern Star. After Keith’s passing in 1989, Gladys moved to White Rock, BC to be closer to grandchildren but returned "home" each summer. She moved into Morgan Heights (assisted living) and was a favourite of staff & residents with her gentle wit. She lived a good life with kindness and dignity.

Her memory is cherished by: Kathryn & Alan Simpson, Nanton, Alberta; Ken & Doris MacKinnon, Calgary; Gwen & David Grant, Surrey; and Meredith & Brian O’Neil, New Westminster, BC. Grandma is treasured by nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is survived by sister in law, Shirley MacKinnon and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life-open to friends and neighbours will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 1:30 at the Masonic Lodge, 204 Hillsboro St. Charlottetown. Internment at Floral Hill Gardens, Fredericton PEI. Donations in her memory may be made to the Nursing Department, UPEI.
