Gabriel Joseph Ouellet
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gabriel Ouellet, age 82, loving father, grandfather and friend, on Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in Ile Verte, Quebec, he was the son of the late Hormidas and Rose (Soucy) Ouellet.
Gabriel was a merchant mariner for most of his life sailing around the world for several companies, retiring as chief engineer.
He was a Scottish Rite Mason, an active Shriner in the Philae Temple and he was affiliated with the Royal Albert Masonic Lodge after moving to North Sydney.
Gabriel is survived by his two children, Charles and Cynthia, and their mother, Ghislaine Roy; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by numerous brothers and sisters.
A Masonic service will be held Thursday, August 17 at 6:45 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A public visitation will follow from 7 to 8 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
