Earle Brannon
Brannon, Earle age 91 lately of Halifax formerly of Munroe Avenue, New Glasgow passed away peacefully at the Veterans Memorial in Halifax, August 17, 2017. He was predeceased by his wife Ellie in 2009. Earle was born in Sommerville, Massachusetts, November 18, 1925. His family moved to Nova Scotia when he was a young boy and eventually settled in the Dartmouth area. Earle served with the No. 1 Squadron R.C.A.F, after paratrooper training in Manitoba in 1944. He later met Ellie, they married in 1953 and they settled in New Glasgow where they both worked and raised their family. Earle was employed with Proudfoot’s Hardware, Home Hardware and Proudfoot Motors during his career in New Glasgow. He also had a small greenhouse on his property and sold plants to many local residents. Having lived through difficult times as a young man, he became knowledgeable and very handy at fixing small electronics as well, woodworking for friends as well as the church.
Earle was an active member of St. Georges Anglican Church, serving as a warden to the minister and working on the vestry committee for many years. He and Ellie danced with the Trenton Twirlers, Square Eights and round danced with the Min-U-ettes. He enjoyed walking, cross-country skiing and bowling. He was still bowling well into his eighties with the local seniors club. Earle was also involved with the Westville Heritage Group and attended the weekly painting sessions. He was a self-taught artist and dabbled in oil and acrylic painting. He generously gave away many of his paintings over the years to anyone who visited.
Earle is survived by his four children: Janet Lee Brannon (Joel Fichaud), Halifax; Kelvin (Peggy) Brannon, New Glasgow; Karen (Allen) King, Kamloops, BC; Philip Brannon, Lower Sackville as well as grandchildren, Hannah Lawrie, Melanie (Kenny), Scott and Evan (Samantha) Brannon, Shannon and Sean King, Kellsie and Jenna Brannon; great-grandchildren, Ava, Rylin Brannon and Hunter Wilson and one sister, Eleanor.
Earle’s family extends a very special thank you to the staff at Veterans Memorial in Halifax who took great care of him during the final years of his life. Cremation has taken place. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Veterans Memorial Halifax or St. Georges Anglican Church, New Glasgow, through the Anglican Diocese of NS, 5732 College St. Halifax, NS, B3H 1X3.
