John William Boom
1922-2007
John William Boom, 94, of Amherst, passed away at Gables Lodge on Sunday August 13, 2017. John was born in Hoogland, Holland and was a son of the late Adrianus and Johanna (van de Kooy) Boom.
John emigrated from Holland in 1949. On a visit back home in 1952, John met and married his wife Ann before returning to Canada. John was a member of Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church. John and his wife spent much time square dancing, bowling, gardening, and they loved to play cards. He is survived by three sons, Adrian (Theresa), St. Catharine's, ON, Michael (Anne), Moncton,and Louis (Cheryl), Edmonton; three daughters, Marion Boom, Ottawa, Elizabeth (Casey) Evers, Moncton, and Jeannette (Allan) MacDonald, Malagash; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Ann (Hilhorst); his brother Johannes Wilhelmus van de Boom and a sister Theodora van de Laar. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care and guidance of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777).There is to be no visitation by request.A Mass will be heldfrom Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church, Amherst on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11 am. Burial to follow in the Saint Charles Nativity Cemetery.
