It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Neil Gregory MacKinnon, Sydney Forks, on September 3, 2017, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney on November 19, 1958 to Peter (Piper) MacKinnon (1972) and Mary Elizabeth (Campbell) MacKinnon (1999).
Neil was a welder by trade.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Darlene (Rose) MacKinnon; brothers, Donnie (Betty), Coxheath; Anthony (Debbie), Portage, also aunt, Margaret Campbell, Harbourstone. Also left to mourn are brothers-in-law, Wayne (Sherri) and Murray Rose; sisters-in-law, Irene (Dave Durnford), Timmons, ON and Janet (Denton Ehler), Whycocomagh, as well as mother-in-law, Mary Rose, Sydney. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Neil was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Blanchard (2000); father-in-law, Murray Rose (2006), and brother-in-law, Thomas Blanchard (2010).
A warm thank you to all the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care of Neil and our family during this time.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial service to take place Friday, September 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish, 40 Cabot St., Sydney, Fr. Bill Burke to officiate. Burial in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, East Bay with a reception to follow in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall.
Donations in Neil’s name may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
