1935-2017
Surrounded by his loving family, Jack Ogilvie, 81, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Born in Dundee Scotland, Jack was a son of the late John and Margaret (Brown) Ogilvie.
Jack graduated from Dundee Technical College and started a career as an Engineer with Northern Electric in Montreal before being transferred to Northern Telecom in Amherst.
Jack was an avid golfer and soccer player. He was a member of the Amherst Golf and Country Club. He loved to travel, especially camping and enjoyed spending time at the beach. A talented artist, Jack could often be found sketching and painting.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years, Sylvia (nee Moore); two daughters, Lisa (Dale) Mattinson, Oxford and Hazel (Carl) Sellars, Amherst; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Bryson (Melissa), Jennifer (Steven), Justin, Brandon, and Kelly; three great grandchildren, Macy (with whom he had a special bond), Jake, and Reigha; two sisters, Linda (Robert) Laurin, Toronto, and Margaret (Ted) Eccles, Burnley, England, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Jacqueline and his brothers, Ron and Bruce.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) from where a memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11 am. Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
Donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
