John Charles "Jack" MacLeod

John Charles "Jack" MacLeod

MACLEOD, John Charles "Jack" – Truro. It is with great sadness that his family announces the passing of Jack MacLeod on Thursday September 14th, 2017 in his 80th year at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Jack was born and lived most of his adult life in the Truro area and leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years; Paulette (nee Cross) MacLeod. Jack is also survived by his sister Annette (Bob) Clelland (Georgia, USA), three children; son Jeffrey (Petawawa, Ontario), daughters Donna-Marie (Dave Pickering) MacLeod (Charlottetown, PEI), and Monica-Lynn (Len) Terpstra (Carleton Place, Ontario); four grandchildren; Riley Grace (Kelsie Donovan), Jenevieve, Lillian and Anneliese Terpstra, one great grandson Aiden Grace, along with niece Susan (nee Clelland) (Brian) Adamson and nephew Donald (Tina) Clelland both of Georgia, USA. Jack began his working career as Branch Manager for Niagara Finance (IAC Finance) in Bridgewater before being transferred to North Sydney, Sydney and finally to Truro. Leaving Niagara Finance Jack began a fifty-year career in the automotive sales industry working for various companies including Nissan, Mazda, Chrysler/Dodge and finally Ford of Canada where he occupied sales positions first at Briarwood Ford before moving to Juniper Ford/Mercury, then to Concept Ford and eventually retiring in 2012 after 16 years with Hollis Ford, Truro. Jack's dedication and passion for sales earned him, over many years, inclusion in Ford of Canada's Professional Sales Club for achieving yearly sales in excess of 1.5 Million dollars. He will be fondly remembered by the many clients and staff whose lives he touched and influenced. Jack didn't have a great interest in professional sports or other, his words, time-wasting activities like golf or fishing. His passions lay with caring for and spending time with his family and friends, having a quiet chat over a cup of coffee and caring for his beloved fish pond. Jack could be a tad stubborn and when he got ideas in his mind he was determined to make them reality. In the spring of '71 he, with help from Paulette, decided his family needed a pool. Shovel in hand and many days of digging later they had dug an in-ground swimming pool which was eventually filled using a garden hose of their own and one borrowed from a neighbor. Again, the urge struck Jack and so in the spring of 1993 he decided he should have a fish pond. He again grabbed his shovel and began digging a large dirt hole in Paulette's backyard. This was the start of a truly passionate love affair which would eventually be a thriving gold fish pond he rigorously maintained for over 23 years and as a result became the proud "father" to countless gold and black baby fish. Jack's Family would like to offer our heartfelt thank you to the many outstanding health care and other professionals for your extreme compassion and caring during a very difficult time. There are too many of you to name specifically but a special mention must go to Drs. Smith, Vantol and Kelly for your very kind bedside manner and human approach to medicine. To nurses Janet and Stephanie, we say thank you for being so kind and caring in our darkest hour. John Gatto was always near with kind words of understanding and insight. Other nurses such as Paula, Isabelle, Mike and Shelley went out of their way to comfort Jack and offer support and a cheerful smile to his family. To Wendy in Environmental Services and the numerous wonderful Food Service staff, we say thank you for always remembering dad's name and for taking extra time for a short chat. Jack was cremated as per his wish. His family invites all his friends, colleagues and those who knew him best to a Visitation on Tuesday, September 19th, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with a Celebration of Life service to be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017, 2pm, at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro with Rev Donna Lawrence officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in Jack's name, if desired, may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre or to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia. Live webcasting of the service will begin at 1:58 p.m. (Atlantic Time) and is available along with on-line messages of condolence at: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
