Simon Patrick McGean

Date de décès : 15 septembre 2017

Simon Patrick McGean, 84, of Ingonish, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Buchanan Memorial Hospital in Neil’s Harbour. Born in Ingonish, he was the son of the late George Edward and Margaret (Young) McGean. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's parish, Ingonish.
Simon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Christena (MacLean); two sons, Brian and Daniel, both of Ingonish, and a daughter, Wendy (John Valentine) of NDIP, Québec. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Brewer, Theresa Robinson and Donna (Hector) Murphy, Ingonish; two sisters-in-law, Marlene McGean, Souris, Manitoba and Josephine Sears, Sydney, and two brothers-in-law, Malcolm MacLean and Michael MacLean, both of Sydney. Also, left behind to celebrate the life of “Grandpa Chickens” are his granddaughters, his pride and joy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Amos, L’Ardoise, Leo and Jack, Ingonish, and Bill, Souris, Manitoba; two sisters, Hattie Morrison, North Sydney and Adeline Cousins, Sydney Mines; five brothers-in-law, James Brewer, Ingonish, John Morrison, North Sydney, James Cousins, Sydney Mines, George Robinson, Ingonish and Cameron Sears, Sydney, and one sister-in-law, Louise McGean, L’Ardoise.
He spent 27 years employed at The Keltic Lodge in Ingonish and retired in October 1991. Simon will be remembered for his quick wit, his carpentry skills, his gardens (especially the giant pumpkins) and his gentle nature. Dad rarely had an angry word or a complaint about anything. His time and talents were always available when in need. It was his great pleasure to fix anything that you threw at him. Many friends and family members have been the recipient of a hand-made gift (often depicting the likeness of the recipient). He loved to laugh and was a joy to be around.
The McGean family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Cape Breton Regional Hospital, The Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Buchanan Memorial Hospital and the North of Smokey Palliative Care Society for the care, compassion and friendship extended to our husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. God Bless.
