It is with great sadness that we, the family of Maria Kennedy, announces her passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on September 18, 2017.
Born May 30, 1937, she was the daughter of John and Theresa Hall.
Maria enjoyed her work as a schoolteacher for many years at Catalone School before moving on to the Coast Guard College working in housekeeping. She was also a devoted volunteer at the Palliative Care Unit of the Regional Hospital, and also felt fulfilled by her involvement in her church, MacMillan United Church in Catalone.
She is survived by her son, Darren; daughter-in-law, Barbie Kennedy; grandchildren, Ryan (Leann), Fuzzy (Sheila), Sammy Jo (Corwin), Jammie Leadbeater and Aletha; sister, Rose Fudge (Ken), and brother, Donnie. Maria will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, Maddox, Averee and Carter. Also left to mourn is Linda Dunn, to whom Maria felt like a mother.
Besides her parents, Maria is predeceased by her first husband, Andrew Kennedy; her second husband, Ev Cox; her son, Andy; brothers, Alex, Henry, Earl, Angus and Tommy, as well as her sister, Isabel MacArthur.
Visitation will take place today, September 20 from 7-9 p.m. at MacMillan United Church, 49 Main A Dieu Rd., Catalone. Funeral Mass will take place Thursday, September 21 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Emily Duggan to officiate. Reception to follow in the church Hall.
Donations in loving memory of Maria may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
