Jean Lexina (MacDonald) (Roberts) Akin - of Kentville, passed away suddenly Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at home. Born in Greenhill, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur MacDonald and Anne (MacKay) (MacDonald) (Gordon). She was a graduate of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow and spent her working career as a registered nurse. Jean was a tireless worker and advocate for her family, friends and community. She always put others first and she will be missed. She is survived by her husband, John Akin, Shannex-Orchard Court, Kentville; a daughter, Kelly (Daryl) Fraser, Coldbrook; step-daughter, Denise Rains (Ken), Moncton, NB and their children; sister-in-law, Kathleen MacDonald (MacDonald) and nephews, Bruce, Philip, Brent and Glen. She was predeceased by her first husband, Sydney Roberts; three brothers, Fraser, Hugh and Robert. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Kings Presbyterian Church, 5563 Prospect Rd., New Minas, Reverend Doctor Tim Archibald officiated. The service was immediately followed by a reception at the church. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill after the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kings Presbyterian Church, Valley Regional Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
