Dr. George Gilmour passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 27th, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret, daughters Susan and Fiona, son Euan, and grandchildren Kathleen, Henry, Nicholas, Jennifer, Jack, Rebecca, and James. George was born in Motherwell, Scotland to William and Susan Gilmour. He graduated from Glasgow University in 1963 and married Margaret in the same year. They immigrated to Prince Albert with their two eldest children in 1968 where he began his practice in Ophthalmology. George practiced in Prince Albert and many communities in the North until 2011. Among his accomplishments were President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, Chief of Staff of the Holy Family Hospital, President of the Prince Albert Medical Association, President of the Prince Albert CNIB, President of the Prince Albert Red Cross, President of the Prince Albert Rotary Club, and Elder of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. Throughout his life, George spent time enjoying many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin in Emma Lake. He was an avid and loyal Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. George was also very fortunate to be able to travel, sharing trips with his wife and family to all parts of the world. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Monday October 2nd at the River Park Memorial Chapel in Prince Albert. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be sent to the CNIB. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Prince Albert, 306 764-2727, Donald M. Moriarty, Funeral Director.
