BRUCE WHITE
1948 - 2017
Bruce John White passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his home in Prince Albert, SK, with his wife by his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Friday, April 30, 1948 and grew up in Rudell, SK. In 1969, Bruce suffered a terrible work-related accident. This accident however, led to Bruce meeting and falling in love with his special nurse, Yvonne Gobeil. It was love at first sight, and they soon married on Saturday, September 6, 1969. Life was never dull as they moved frequently, changed careers and embarked together on many new adventures. Bruce and Yvonne were blessed with 3 children: Venita (Dwayne Stonechild), Suzanne (Darren Toombs) and Benjamin (Kelli Mossing). He also had 10 grandchildren, whom he adored: Amanda, Alyssa, Julia and Jaylynn Stonechild, Alexandra, Madison and Jaxom Toombs, Hanna, Jaden and Kyle White. Bruce had been told that this work-related accident would leave him confined to a wheelchair by the age of 25. But through his determination and strong will, he beat this prognosis and kept walking until the cancer set in. Bruce always lived life to the fullest. He was forever busy working on a new project, gardening, out fishing or hunting; enjoying the comforts of nature. Bruce had many careers during his life: security guard, carpenter, farmer, welder, mechanic, electrician, campground operator and owner, as well as teacher; he was a true jack of all trades. He did much volunteer work including President of Sturgeon Lake Regional Park. To many, he was the "google" for advice and information before the internet and YouTube. He touched many lives as a friend and a mentor. Bruce was a strong man who suffered in silence with a chronic back issue and later in life, cancer. He faced his pain with dignity and offered it up to the Lord. Bruce is survived by his wife of 48 years, Yvonne (Gobeil); all his children and grandchildren; one brother, Ivan White; numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Margaret (Edinborough) White; in-laws, Ernest and Jeanne (Roussell) Gobeil; brothers-in-law, Arthur Gobeil and Raymond Gobeil; and sister-in-law, Jeannine Gobeil. The family would like to thank Dr. Debeer, Dr. Grobler, and the Palliative Care Nursing team for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting donations to purchase palliative equipment to assist future cancer clients to stay home longer. A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Father Matthew Nguyen officiating. Interment to follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
