It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Desmond Ralph Aylward age 78 of Amherst and formerly of Springhill announce his passing on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Ralph and Eva (Desmond) Aylward.
Desmond worked in construction for over 40 years in Cumberland County and away. He was an avid sports fan and was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan for over 70 years. Desmond enjoyed watching western movies and playing cards.
He leaves to mourn his wife the former Susan Brown, two daughters Holly (Kenny Rector) and Stephanie Rector both of Amherst, three sons Ralph and John of Amherst and Mark of Alberta, two sisters Brenda Penny (Paul) and Betty “Dorothy” (Donnie) Ryan both of Halifax, several grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Desmond was predeceased by his daughter Heather Hunter and sister Marilyn Armstrong.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 12 to 5 p.m. at 6 Dale Street, Amherst, NS.
Family burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
The family would like to thank the nurses VON, Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre Palliative Care and nurses as well as Dr. Short, Dr. Beltran and Dr. Bob.
