Hopewell: Mervin Allen Vermette age 77 of Elgin Road, Hopewell and formerly of 100 Mile House B.C. passed away on Thursday April 21, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Parenteau) Vermette.
Mervin has most recently lived on the Elgin Road, Hopewell and prior to that had lived in 100 Mile House, B.C.
In his early years he worked as a tree feller and later went on to work at WellWood Canada from where he retired.
Mervin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren also fishing, reading and camping.
He was a member of Branch#28 Royal Canadian Legion.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his second wife Grace Chisholm-Vermette; His children: Myrna (Stanton) Lamb of 100 Mile House, Wendy (Melvin) Warkentin of 100 Mile House, Lyle Vermette of 100 Mile House, Adrian (Maureen ) Vermette of Kamloops B.C., Kelly Vermette of 100 Mile House, Kim Webb (Harold) of Pictou; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Mervin was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years Pauline Shewchuk, a grandson Terry Lamb, 12 brothers and a sister.
Cremation has taken place, burial will take place in 100 Mile House beside his late wife Pauline.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the H.C.MacQuarrie Funeral Home.
