EDWARDS, Millicent Ethel “Millie”, Age 87, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on October 12, 1930, in Caledonia, Ontario, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (Reed) Timson. Millie came to Windsor with her late husband, Stewart Johnson in 1956 to follow his career at Domtar Gypsum. For 25 years, she worked many hours at Windsor Textiles and made Windsor her home. Over the years, Millie made several trips back to Caledonia to visit family. Her passion was her cottage at Mockingee Lake, which she enjoyed sharing with family and friends. Also, gardening, knitting, attending musical jam sessions and sewing clothes for her children. She was a dedicated and a special mother to children, James Johnson (Christine), Dundas, Ontario; Connie Swinamer (Brian), Ellershouse; Nancy Spencer (Gerald), Ellershouse. She was a fantastic Nannie to Jarett Johnson (Kelly), Port Ryerse, Ontario; Jenny Johnson, Falmouth; Miranda Swinamer, Ellershouse; Jenna Swinamer (Craig), Ellershouse; Lacey Spencer, Ellershouse and Ashley Spencer (Liam), Waterville. Millie was a step-Nannie to Dawn Marshall, London, Ontario; Kelly Vershure (Colin), Norfolk, Ontario and Jimmy Marshall, Hamilton, Ontario; a loving great-grandmother to Victoria and Avery Johnson, Aiden and Kylie Allen, Carter Spencer, Alivia Webster and step-great-grandmother, Arshan Shah and Phoebe Banks. She held her siblings, Doris, Ruby and Harvey close to her heart and will be missed dearly by her nieces and nephews as well. Millie was predeceased by siblings, Helen, Marjorie, Bruce, Roy, George, Harold “Jim” and Gordon. The family would like to thank the staff at Dykeland Lodge for their care and kindness shown to their mother during her stay. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor, NS (902-798-8317), where family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, October, 24. A funeral service celebrating Millie’s life will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. A private family burial will take place immediately afterward in Maplewood Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Millie may be made to Canadian Breast Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6.
