RONALD EDSYL "RON" FORD

RONALD EDSYL "RON" FORD

RONALD EDSYL "RON" FORD Son of Gwendolyn (nee Colborne) and Charles Ford passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Ron grew up in Collingwood, NS sharing a small home with his parents and six siblings. He attended high school in nearby Oxford, NS where he met his future wife, Frances. After high school, Ron travelled to Hamilton in search of work to earn the money needed to attend university. Through his own efforts and the generous support of a local business owner, Ron was able to attend Mount Allison University graduating with a degree in geology in 1953. After graduation, Ron married his high school sweetheart, Fran, and moved to the new mining town of Murdochville, QC. There they began a family welcoming Randy in 1954 followed in two year intervals by Cindy and Chris. After nearly 25 years in Murdochville, they lived briefly in Saskatoon before moving permanently to Southern Ontario in 1977. His early years and humble beginnings left an indelible mark on Ron's life. He remained a tireless worker throughout his career and provided financial support to countless students wanting to pursue a post secondary education.
Over the years, Ron and Fran spent many fun-filled vacations at Heather Beach in Nova Scotia with their growing family and the families of their siblings. In retirement, they travelled to many exotic locations and built their dream winter retreat on Hilton Head Island, SC. For Ron, family and friends were always the centre of his life. Ron is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Murray (Joan) and Merlin (Iona), son Chris (Karen) and grandchildren Jessica and Matthew, daughter Cindy (Dennis) and grandchildren Andrea (Evan) and Nicholas, son Randy (Ann) and grandsons Jeremy (Sarah) and Joshua (Morgan and great-granddaughter Asbell), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ron was predeceased earlier this year by his wife of 63 years, Fran as well as by his four sisters, Joan Lloy, Eleanor Lloy, Joyce Bishop and Brenda Adshade. Special thanks to the staff at Woodlands of Sunset Nursing Home in Welland for their excellent care, kindness and support. A Celebration of Life to honour Ron's memory will be held in the summer of 2018. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences can be placed at www.pedlarfuneralhome.ca
