Keith Eugene Carroll passed away peacefully at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, Nova Scotia on Thursday October 26, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Keith was born on a dairy farm in the small town of Dutton, Ontario on March 16, 1933.
He was the son of the late Thomas (Harry) and Jean Carroll.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara (Power). Keith was the youngest of four boys and was predeceased by his brothers, Dolph, James and Ross.
Keith is survived by his four sons, Mark (Deb)Truro, N.S., David(Marianne)Winnipeg, Manitoba, Glen (Cora) Winnipeg, Manitoba and Stephen(Nancy) Toronto, Ontario as well as 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
As a young man he started his career in radio, based in London, Ontario. Subsequently, Keith proudly served in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years. He would often reminisce about being stationed for 6 months in Alert, the northern most settlement in the world. As a result of his career in the Armed Forces, he and Barb were posted in Metz France, Val’Dor, Quebec, Kingston, Ontario and Truro, Nova Scotia. After retiring from the RCAF he accepted a position at the CBC as an Electronic Technician in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This position brought them full circle back to Barb’s birthplace. With each passing year he became a proud Cape Bretoner, although he never forgot his Ontario roots.
Keith enjoyed playing the harmonica, gardening, music and reading. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends. Keith and Barbara were active Life Members of the Whitney Pier Legion. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was dearly loved and will be missed.
A celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with Rev Sheldon Chant officiating.
