It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Samuel Seymour Skinner Sr., age 92, of Amherst, Tuesday, October 31st 2017, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst.
Born in Amherst, he was the son of the late Samuel S Skinner and Bertha Mae Doncaster.
His early life was spent in Windsor, Ontario where he was employed with Loblaws and the Ontario School Board. He was an avid outdoorsman, particularly when it came to fishing, a skill he shared with many. Following the death of his dear Flo, he returned to Amherst where he reconnected with many friends at the ballfield, stadium, roots, and his daily walk around town. He was known for his sense of humor and his positive outlook on life. As an avid sports fan, he was particularly proud of the recent drafting of his youngest grandson to NHL.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Florence (Halak), sister Mary Miller (late Charles), and brothers Harry (Patricia) and G. Sydney (Marjorie).
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Samuel S (Susan), grandchildren Stephen, Sarah, Scott, Sandra, Sharon, Shannon, Samantha, Sheldon, Stuart, eleven great grandchildren, sister Betty Boccioletti (late Daniel) as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2nd from 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM, at Campbells Funeral Home, 98 Church Street 902-667-9906. Interment will take place immediately following the service at the Amherst Cemetery, with a reception to follow, also at Campbells.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cumberland Hospice Society.
