We regret to announce the death of Mr. D’Arcy McNabb, age 87 of Glace Bay, who died peacefully on November 11, 2017.
Born in Reserve Mines he was the son of the late Patrick and Emma (MacKenzie) McNabb.
D’Arcy was a man of great faith. He was a gentleman who took the time to listen to others. He made friends wherever he went. D’Arcy was a member of Knox United Church serving as Clerk of Session for over 25 years. He also served on many other church committees. He was the founding member of the United Church Men’s Conference where he served for over 35 years. In his younger days D’Arcy was an outstanding athlete. He played hockey as a goaltender and helped lead his team to win the 1948 Maritime Championship. He was also a fine baseball player and bowled for the Seaboard bowling league.
D’Arcy was a long time employee of the Cape Breton Development Corporation where he was employed in a managerial position.
D’Arcy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Catherine (Kay) McNabb, formerly Ripley, Seaview Manor. D’Arcy was devoted to his wife and loved her very much. He carried her high school picture in his wallet everywhere he went. He is also survived by his niece, Faith St. John; his nephew, Vernon Jones; his brother-in-law, Percy Jones, as well as well as numerous nieces and nephews of the Ripley family.
Besides his parents, D’Arcy was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Jones.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at Knox United Church, Commercial St., Glace Bay on Thursday November 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bob Biggar and Rev. David MacLean officiating. Committal will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Knox United Church or a charity of one’s choice.
