James Vernon MacDonald

James Vernon MacDonald
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Vernon MacDonald, age 65, of Amherst. Jim passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 with family by his side at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Arthur and Louitta (Langille) MacDonald.
Jim grew up over on the hill on Mission Street. He loved laughter, joking around, and even performed stand up for a period of time in the States. He was passionate about music, loved playing guitar, was a member of "The Fellas" singing group, and was an active volunteer at CFTA. He was an active member of the Amherst Fire Department and a member of the Knights of Columbus. A man with a huge heart, he felt everyone deserved a chance. He loved life, and especially his family. He met his wife Susan in 1976, fell passionately in love and though they had many bumps along the way, their strong bond always saw them through.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Dan (Stacy) MacDonald, Charlene MacDonald, and Tammy Rogers all of Amherst; grandchildren, Benji, Katt (Darren), Gia, Brady and Noah; great granddaughter Zandra; sister Edna (Roy) Bacon, Amherst and brother Don MacDonald, Truro; special nephews, Jeff and Jason Adshade; as well as several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Susan (Manion), brother Doug MacDonald and sister Dorothy MacDonald.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from Holy Family Parish Church, Rev. Father Craig Christenson officiating on Saturday at 2 pm, followed by burial in the St. Charles Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
