1924-2017
We are saddened to announce the passing of Laurence Lockwood Harrison, 93 of Amherst. Laurence passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at Gables Lodge, Amherst NS, He was the son of the late Gilbert and Ruby (King) Harrison.
He is survived by his wife Alice (Blenkhorn) Harrison and his daughter Victoria Harrison, Amherst, as well as his step children Josephine (Roy) Fromm, West Amherst and Allen Thibideau, Ontario, nine step grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel Thibideau, stepson Charles Thibideau, and sisters Blair Weatherdon, Denise Earle and Florence Mandy.
Laurence grew up on the family farm where he farmed for many years before being employed as a technician, at the Experimental Farm in Nappan for over 33 years.
He was a member of the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Amherst Curling Club, the Cumberland Twirlers Square Dance Club, the Blue Nose RV Squares and the Round Dance Club. He and Alice travelled across Canada in their motor home attending square dance conventions. Laurence and Alice were very actively involved in the Bridge Workshop and served on the Board of Directors for many years.
Laurence was keen on gadgets and always wanted to try the latest technology. He enjoyed gardening and was always willing to help his neighbours. He will be sadly missed by all.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777). A memorial service will be held from the funeral home at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 with a reception to follow. Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery. Ruth Gamble DLM presiding.
Donations in memory of Laurence may be made to Bridge Adult Service Centre or a charity of the donor's choice.
