Philip George Cogswell

Card of Thanks
Philip George Cogswell
January 28, 1954 to September 6, 2017
We, Philip’s Family, would like to thank the many people who have been so kind and helpful to us during his illness. To our families, friends, and neighbours we extend our heartfelt gratitude. In Particular, we would like to thank Kathryn’s family who routinely travelled many miles to spend time with Philip over the past year. We would also like to thank the many members of Philip’s extended family from New Brunswick who also took time to visit. Many of these visits and extended stays would not have been possible without the help of Joan and Bill Delaney for providing accommodation near our home. Over the course of his illness Philip received exemplary care from our health care system. We wish to extend our thanks to his family physician, Dr. Sebastian, the staff of the Cancer Centre, and the staff of Palliative Care, especially Michelle Kelly for the home visits. Philip loved music and during his final months enjoyed visits with Jill Murphy, a music therapist with Palliative Care. In addition to the hospital staff, we would like to thank the VON, without their daily visit Philip would have been unable to remain at home until the end. A special thank you goes out to Helen Sweeny and Joline Gray.
We also wish to thank Philip’s friends and former co-workers from Nova Scotia Power who visited him at home and during his hospital stays. We would especially like to thank his good friend Brian for his many trips to our home to help maintain the lawn to Philip’s high standards.
Thank you to Rev. Brenda Drake for her home and hospital visits and the wonderful tribute during his funeral service. We would like to thank the funeral readers, Philip’s nephew Rob Batherson and Philip’s son Doug Cogswell, both did a beautiful job. We also wish to extend our thanks to the choir of St. Albans’s Anglican Church for performing Philip’s favorite hymns and Aaron Lewis for performing “The River” at the end of the service. Many thanks go out to Sheldon Chant and his staff for their time and effort in helping to facilitate the wake, funeral and burial. We wish to thank all of those who attended the wake and the funeral from near and far, and those that sent cards or gave donations. Your thoughtfulness has helped ease our sorrow.
We also extend our thanks to Lauren Burns and the ladies of the Union Presbyterian PCW in Albert Bridge for hosting us after the funeral and burial service. The reception was organized and catered by Kathryn’s former colleagues. We wish to thank Stewart Kennedy of St. Joseph’s Cemetery for his assistance during the burial service.
Finally to our children, Ainslie and Doug who did so much to help their dad and I during these past seventeen months, thank you.
Kathryn, Ainslie, Doug and Merika; Philip’s brothers, Grant (Elaine), John and his sister, Brenda.
